Task guide

Make one document on many matters

Run one template across many matters at once, each document filled from its own matter and filed to it, and follow the run to the end.

Start a run

  1. Open Settings, Documents, Templates, Bulk runs, and choose New bulk run, or start one from a template's own page.
  2. Choose a published template.
  3. Take the matters from a saved view of the matters, or pick them one by one under Matters I pick. A view brings every matter it shows you, up to the firm's limit for a run (500 unless the firm changes Matters in one bulk run).
  4. Answer the template's blanks once; the answers are the same for every matter. Each matter's own details, its client, parties and numbers, fill in on their own.
  5. Choose what happens to each document: Filed only, Emailed to each client (with a subject and a note) or Sent to each client to sign.

The run works in the background. You can leave the page; you are told when it finishes.

What the run records

A run is kept as a record: who started it, when, the template version it used, and what came of it. Each matter has its own line: Made with its document, or Skipped or Failed with the reason. A matter is skipped when you may not file to it, when it is closed, or when it lacks a detail the template needs.

Each document is numbered and filed on its matter exactly as if it had been made there by hand.

Cancel or try again

Cancel the run while it is still running. Matters not yet reached are left without a document; documents already made stay filed.

When a run finishes with failures, Try the failures again makes the failed matters again and sends the emails or signing requests that did not go. Skipped matters stay skipped: put right why they were skipped and start a new run for them.

Who may

Starting a run needs document.bulk_generate, and each matter is checked for document.generate as its line is made.
