Record time
Run a timer, use quick entry or fill the week grid, with each entry rounded, valued at once and checked against the rules the firm sets.
Run a timer
- Open Time, then Timers, and start a timer on the matter you are working on.
- Pause and resume as you are interrupted. You can keep several timers, with one running at a time. The running timer shows at the top of every screen.
- Stop it and add the narrative; it becomes a time entry.
Timers are kept on the server, so a timer started at your desk is still running on your phone. If you step away, the timer asks about the idle time when you return rather than stopping by itself.
Quick entry
Quick entry, on My time and beside the timer, opens a small dialog for today's time: the matter, how long, the activity and what was done. Press Enter from any field to record it.
Fill the week grid
Time, Week catches up a week at once. Each line is one matter and activity with what was done; the days of the week head the columns once, each with the time already recorded on it, and you type the time under each day.
- Type time as 1:30 or 1.5; either settles to 1:30 when you leave the box.
- Each line shows its own total, and the figures above the grid give the time already recorded, the time on the page and the week's total after recording.
- Duplicate line in a line's menu starts a new line on the same matter and activity. The up and down arrow keys move between the same day on the lines above and below.
- The foot of the grid shows what each day will hold once recorded. Every line is recorded together, or none is; a line that is missing its matter, activity or narrative is named, and nothing is sent until it is fixed.
On a phone, or wherever the grid is narrow, the week is filled a day at a time.

What happens when you save
- The duration is rounded up to the firm's increment, six minutes unless the firm has set another.
- The entry is valued at once from the rate in force on the work day, and the rate and where it came from are kept on the entry.
- The activity decides whether it is chargeable; a narrative is offered for the activity you chose.
A long day
The firm sets how long a day may run before recording more asks why (Settings, Time recording, the long day warning; twelve hours unless the firm has set another, and nought never asks). The week grid marks such a day before you record it. When you record time that takes a day past it, from any screen, you are shown the day and asked for a reason; the reason is kept on the entries and shown on each entry to whoever approves the time.
Fix an entry
Edit, copy, repeat, split an entry across matters, or transfer it to another matter with a reason. Once an entry is on a posted bill it is locked: it is corrected by a reversing entry beside it and a new entry with the right work, both visible.
Late time
Work older than the firm's window waits for approval by the matter's partner or your supervisor, who are told.
